Giancarlo Lemmi
Women’s Tennis Associate Head Coach
Liberty University
Giancarlo (Gian) Lemmi was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He earned a Bachelor’s in Kinesiology and a Master’s in Education from Liberty University. He has coached the Women’s Tennis Team at Liberty University since 2012. His teams have amassed more than 100 wins and 3 regular season conference championships. Gian is married to Meredith and they have two children, Olivia and Luca.
Lemmi joined the Lady Flames’ coaching staff in the fall of 2012 as a graduate assistant and during the summer of 2013, he was promoted to a full-time assistant by head coach Jeff Maren. In May 2018, Lemmi received a promotion to associate head coach.
Lemmi’s strong knowledge of the game and Liberty tennis stems from his four-year playing career for the Flames.
During his first five seasons as the full-time assistant, Lemmi has helped the Lady Flames to a 79-45 overall record, including a 36-7 mark in Big South Conference matches and a share of the Big South regular-season crown in two of the past three seasons (2016, 2017) along with Big South Championship title match appearances in both 2016 and 2018.
In the spring of 2016, Lemmi helped lead the Lady Flames to the finals of the Big South Women’s Tennis Championship. The team’s eight Big South wins set a new single-season program record. Liberty has reached the semifinals or finals of the Big South Women’s Tennis Championship in each of his first five seasons with the program.
Liberty’s two winningest seasons in program history have both come with Lemmi as an assistant coach – 19 wins (2015) and 18 wins (2018).
The Sao Paulo, Brazil, native helped the Flames reach double-digit victories in each of his four total seasons as a player—the first such stretch in the program’s history. Lemmi helped the Flames accumulate 50 victories in the four-year span.
Lemmi concluded his standout career in 2012, finishing as the Flames’ all-time career wins leader in both singles (72) and doubles (79) play upon graduation. The two-time Big South All-Conference player in doubles also excelled in the classroom, being named to the Big South’s Presidential Honor Roll three times, the Big South All-Academic team twice (2011-12) and the VaSID All-Academic team once (2012).
Lemmi and his wife, Meredith, currently reside in Lynchburg, Va., with their two kids, Olivia and Luca.
